Same-Day Sick Visits for Kids in Washington DC

Spring Valley Pediatrics offers same-day sick visits for all patients, 365 days a year — including weekends and holidays. When your child is sick, call us in the morning and we will fit them in that day. You will see your own physician, not a rotating urgent care doctor who doesn’t know your child. A physician is also on call 24 hours a day for after-hours questions.

Same-Day Sick Visits for Kids in Northwest DC, Bethesda, and Northern Virginia

Few things worry a parent more than a child suddenly feeling unwell.

One moment they’re playing normally…
and the next, they have a fever, sore throat, or ear pain — and you’re left wondering:

Do we need to see the doctor today?

For families in Spring Valley, Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Potomac, Arlington, McLean and Northwest DC, having access to same-day pediatric care can provide comfort, clarity, and quick support when it matters most.

Kids Don’t Get Sick on a Schedule

Childhood illnesses have a way of showing up at the least convenient times:

  • Right before school

  • Late in the afternoon

  • On the weekend

  • The night before a trip

  • During flu season when everything feels urgent

That’s why parents often search for a same day pediatrician visit in DC — because waiting days for an appointment isn’t always possible.

When Should You Call for a Same-Day Sick Visit?

Some symptoms are common, but still deserve prompt medical attention.

Same-day pediatric visits are especially helpful for concerns like:

  • Fever in infants or young children

  • Ear pain or possible ear infections

  • Persistent cough or breathing discomfort

  • Sore throat or suspected strep

  • Vomiting or dehydration concerns

  • Rashes that appear suddenly

  • Asthma flare-ups

  • Ongoing fatigue or unusual symptoms

Even when it turns out to be something mild, reassurance from your pediatrician means everything.

Why Seeing Your Pediatrician Is Often Better Than Urgent Care

Parents sometimes feel stuck between urgent care and waiting it out.

But visiting your child’s regular pediatrician offers important benefits:

✅ Doctors Who Know Your Child

Your pediatrician understands your child’s medical history, allergies, and growth patterns.

✅ Pediatric-Focused Care

Urgent care centers treat all ages — but pediatric practices specialize in children.

✅ Continuity and Comfort

Seeing a familiar doctor helps kids feel calmer, especially when they don’t feel well.

✅ Trusted Guidance for Next Steps

You leave with a clear plan, not just a quick diagnosis.

What to Expect at a Sick Visit

During a same-day sick appointment, your pediatrician may:

  • Perform a thorough exam

  • Check ears, lungs, throat, and temperature

  • Offer in-office testing if needed

  • Discuss home care recommendations

  • Prescribe medication when appropriate

  • Help parents understand what to watch for

Most importantly, you’ll leave feeling supported — not rushed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule a same-day sick visit at Spring Valley Pediatrics?

Call 202-966-5000 on the morning your child is sick. On weekdays, call during our regular hours starting at 9:00 AM. On weekends and holidays, call after 8:00 AM — we see sick children in the office in the morning. Slots are limited, so call as early as possible.

Will my child see their regular doctor at a sick visit?

Yes. At Spring Valley Pediatrics, you see the same physician at every visit — sick or well. This is one of the things that distinguishes us from urgent care centers. Your doctor knows your child’s history, current medications, and past illnesses, which means better and faster care.

What conditions do you see at same-day sick visits?

We see all acute childhood illnesses including fever, ear pain, sore throat, cough, rash, vomiting, diarrhea, eye infections, abdominal pain, and more. If your child needs a test (strep, flu, COVID, urinalysis), we can do most of them on-site in our accredited laboratory with same-day results.

Is urgent care ever a better option than calling my pediatrician?

For life-threatening emergencies, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For urgent but non-emergency concerns, your pediatrician should be your first call — we can advise over the phone, see your child the same day, or direct you to the appropriate level of care. Urgent care centers may be appropriate when your own pediatrician is not available, but your own doctor is always the better option when accessible.
