Joanna M. Sexter, MD, FAAP

A native Washingtonian, Dr. Sexter completed her undergraduate studies at Tufts University where she received a B.A. in Child Study. She earned her medical degree from The George Washington University School of Medicine and completed her Pediatric Residency training at Georgetown University Hospital where she was recognized as Resident of the Year.

Dr. Sexter is a board-certified pediatrician and has been in private practice in Washington, DC since 2000. Her practice philosophy emphasizes preventive medicine and health maintenance through education, physical examination and immunizations. Dr. Sexter is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She has been a member of the DC Osler Medical Society and Foxhall Women’s Physicians Association. She is regularly recognized as one of The Washingtonian Magazine’s Top Doctors in Pediatrics. Dr. Sexter has enjoyed serving on various task forces in an advisory capacity for local schools and camps.

Dr. Sexter is a member of the medical staff at Sibley Memorial Hospital and Children’s Hospital. She has academic appointments at Georgetown University Hospital and GW Hospital and enjoys teaching medical students from both of these institutions. She currently resides in Rockville, MD with her husband and their two children and two dogs. In her free time, Dr. Sexter enjoys ballet, theater, skiing, hiking, and world travel. She looks forward to forming and maintaining long-lasting relationships with you and your family.
